Student Led Inquiry

As a follow on from our Zero Waste Unit our class has split into groups to see what we can do to make a difference at Ashhurst School.

Here was what we got up to today...

RECYCLING
  • called PNCC to ask for reccyling bins for our school- they will call back
  • wrote letter to BOT to ask for recycling bins if the council won't give us some
  • We need to think about how we are going to get our recycling to a recycling centre
  • Checked out the paper recycling- lots of people are putting rubbish in their recycling bins - how can we prevent this from happening?
COMPOST
  • Looked at compost- it needs be turned but we couldn't find a fork
  • We are asking our community to help us with a compost club
  • Found some info on composting- we need to have layers
  • Notice in the news letter to ask for help
REDUCE/REUSE
  • Making posters to start a club using recycling
  • Organsing a sack to collect all of our classes rubbish over 1 day
  • We need to think about how we can reduce the amount of waste we are bringing to school in our lunch boxes everyday
GARDEN
  • Looked at garden- needs more dirt, it has lots of rubbish, not looked after
  • We need to turn over the soil
  • Need to ask the gardening centre to donate soil
  • Could ask compost club if they could give us some compost
FOOD SCRAPS
  • Ask Mr Salmon if he had a rubbish bucket so we could collect food scraps over 2 days
  • Looked on internet but struggled to find how much food scraps we should put in a compost
If you can help us in any way please post us a comment :)
